N. Korea Discusses Detained Canadian Pastor with Swedish Ambassador
2016-11-25 Updated.

A senior North Korean foreign affairs official is reported to have discussed the detainment of Korean-Canadian pastor Lim Hyeon-soo with the Swedish ambassador to Pyongyang.

According to North Korea's Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) on Friday, a director in charge of European affairs and the ambassador held discussions on whether to allow Lim to meet Canadian consular officials.

The KCNA said that the Swedish ambassador also asked Pyongyang to allow consular meetings to American citizens detained in North Korea.

In response, the North Korean official stressed the regime’s principles to handle all issues with the U.S. under its wartime law.

Lim has been in and out of North Korea since 1997 on humanitarian aid missions. He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor on charges of devising subversive plots against the state in January 2015.
