U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping have affirmed their commitment to realize the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful way.
In a joint news conference following U.S.-China summit talks in Washington, Obama also said the two countries will not accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state and demand the North's full implementation of all relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions.
President Xi also expressed opposition to any action that might cause tension on the peninsula or violate U.N. Security Council resolutions.
The Chinese leader said the 2005 agreement on North Korea's denuclearization and other related U.N. resolutions should be "implemented in full." He added that "all relevant parties should work together to firmly advance the denuclearization process and maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula so as to achieve enduring peace and stability in Northeast Asia."
