Kim Moon-soo, a former labor minister, and Rep. Jang Dong-hyuk advanced Friday to the runoff vote for leader of the main opposition People Power Party.

The two were selected out of four finalists — including Ahn Cheol-soo and Cho Kyung-tae — after the first round, which combined 80 percent party member ballots and 20 percent public opinion polling.

Party officials did not disclose vote tallies, but said the top contender failed to win a majority, triggering a second round.

Both Kim and Jang belong to the faction that opposed the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, giving the race a clear anti-impeachment framing.

They will meet in a final televised debate Saturday before the runoff vote, scheduled for August 26, which will again weigh party members at 80 percent and a nationwide survey at 20 percent.

Mobile and ARS voting by members, along with a fresh opinion poll, will take place over the weekend ahead of the decisive ballot.
