The special counsel team investigating the December 3 martial law case said Tuesday that circumstances have changed considerably since the Constitutional Court rejected the impeachment of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in March, opening the door to a new legal assessment.

At the time, the court ruled there was no evidence that Han colluded in or condoned former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s action, saying Han merely suggested consulting Cabinet ministers two hours before Yoon declared martial law.

Investigators now say additional evidence has been collected since the special counsel began its work.

They suspect Han called for a Cabinet meeting not to block the declaration, but to give it procedural legitimacy.

Han was questioned as a suspect on Tuesday without invoking his right to remain silent, and prosecutors may seek a detention warrant after the session.
