Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has failed to appear in court for his criminal insurrection trial for the fourth time.

The Seoul Central District Court held a hearing in the trial Monday morning in the absence of the ousted president.

The former president is accused of leading an insurrection and abusing his power with his short-lived martial law attempt in December.

Since Yoon was taken into detention on July 10, the former president has refused to appear for any criminal court proceedings, citing health issues.

His defense attorneys have said he has been in pain since Thursday, when investigators from special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team tried to forcibly bring him in for questioning about allegations against his wife, Kim Keon-hee.
