Korea Fails to Enter MSCI World Index
South Korea has been excluded from the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) All Country World Index.
MSCI admitted Israel in its index Tuesday but maintained Korea in the Emerging Market Free Index.
A representative from Morgan Stanley said Korea is qualified for entry in terms of stock market size and liquidity, but it took issue with the lack of an overseas market for Korean currency and domestic financial restrictions such as the foreign investors' registration system.
MSCI said it will consider Korea for entry again in its annual assessment next year.
