Seoul Court Says Microsoft Guilty in Anti-Trust Case

A South Korean court has ruled that Microsoft violated anti-trust regulations by bundling its messenger and media player programs with its Windows operating system.

The Seoul Central District Court said Microsoft breached fair competition practices by packaging the programs together with its operating system. But the court did end up dismissing a compensation suit filed by South Korean software developers against the U.S. technology giant.

South Korean program developers Sanview Technology and Digito.Com sued Microsoft in 2006 for a combined 40 billion won in damages for what they said were losses incurred due to the U.S. company's program bundling.

The court ruled that there is no proof that Microsoft’s packaging was the cause for the Korean companies’ substantial losses.
