S. Korea Ranks 14th in Business Bribe Survey

A survey finds that South Korea ranks 14th in terms of the number of bribe-offering business firms.

According to Transparency International's study on 22 countries, South Korea scored seven-and-a-half points out of a perfect score of ten in the Bribe Players Index, which measures the possibility of a country's firms offering bribes while doing business in foreign nations.

The closer a country's score gets to ten, the less likely it is to have given bribes during overseas business transactions.

The score put South Korea in 14th place along with Taiwan and South Africa.

South Korea ranked 18th out of 19 countries in the Bribe Players Index in 1999 and 21st out of 30 nations in 2006.

Meanwhile, Belgium and Canada jointly topped the list while Russia ranked at the bottom.
