Pres-elect Eyes Summit with Putin in April

President-elect Lee Myung-bak is expected to hold summit talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as April.

Representative Lee Jae-oh, who visited Russia as Lee's special envoy, reported to the president-elect that Moscow hopes for a summit before May seventh. That's when Russia will also have a new president take office.

The envoy quoted the president-elect as saying he'll try to make it by May seventh following his visit to the United States.

The incoming president was also quoted as saying it's important to advance Seoul's relations with Moscow, which are very important for energy diplomacy and regional peace.

If the president-elect visits Moscow for a summit, his counterpart will be incumbent Russian President Putin. It would likely be Lee's second summit with a leader of one of the four major powers surrounding the Korean Peninsula.
