Astronaut Finalists to Leave for Russia Wednesday
The two finalists competing to become the nation's first astronaut will leave for Russia Wednesday to begin a year of intensive space travel training.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said Go San and Lee So-yeon will undergo their last rounds of testing to confirm their ability to adapt to outer space and begin training at Russia's Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center from Tuesday of next week.
Go and Lee will be instructed on space travel, survival and adaptation skills, how to carry out scientific missions and the Russian language until March of next year.
One of the two finalists will get to board the Soyuz spacecraft, and travel to the International Space Station that orbits the earth in April 2008.
Go San is a 30-year-old researcher from the computer vision and human intelligence division at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology.
Lee So-yeon is a 28-year-old female doctorate student at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
