Party Heads Meet Senior Chinese Official

Ruling and opposition leaders on Monday met with a senior Chinese Communist Party official who is visiting Seoul for a regional conference of political party heads.

The Uri Party's Chung Sye-kyun and main opposition Grand National Party Chairman Kang Jae-sup held talks with foreign liaison vice chief Liu Hong Cai at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, discussing the recent six-way nuclear agreement, bilateral cooperation and other Korean Peninsula issues.

On the nuclear deal, Liu said the six-nation dialogue will be a very long and complex process. He also asked Seoul to uphold the one-China principle regarding Taiwan.

Uri Chairman Chung said China is expected to play a leading role to contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula this year, which marks the 15th anniversary of bilateral ties. He also asked the Chinese official to support Korean firms in China.

GNP leader Kang stressed that both countries must put in much effort for North Korea's ultimate nuclear dismantlment via the six-way process.
