A new private organization aimed at helping overseas ethnic Koreans restore their legal status and facilitate global exchanges among them will begin operation next week in Seoul.

The World Korean International Cooperation Agency announced plans to hold its founding ceremony and world general assembly next Wednesday to Friday.

The event will bring together leaders of ethnic Korean and Korean cultural, social and trade associations from around the world.

The organization's plans include designation of a day dedicated to overseas ethnic Koreans, setting up a related government agency and educating young ethnic Koreans and Korean adoptees in their mother country's culture, history and language.
