'Job Popularity, Pay Don't Always Match'

News2006-05-25

A survey finds that popular jobs are not necessarily high-paying ones as an increasing number of people place growing importance on job stability.

A domestic company studying salary information said Thursday that a survey of 2,200 people who visited the company's website found that 15 percent of respondents—the highest proportion—singled out teaching as a preferred profession.

Other popular choices included public service work, and jobs in the finance, IT and entertainment sectors.

According to the company's data and Labor Ministry documents, the annual salary of the most popular profession, that of teacher, was 32 million won on average. That of a dentist, the seventh-most popular career choice in the survey, was 91 million won.
