South Korean novelist Hwang Sok-yong's translated novel "Mater 2-10" has been longlisted for the 2024 International Booker Prize.

The novel, which was translated into English by Sora Kim-Russell and Youngjae Josephine Bae, is one of 13 preliminary nominees by the Booker Prize Foundation.

The British literary awards described Hwang's novel as "an epic, multi-generational tale that threads together a century of national history", adding that the novel was created by one of South Korea's most important writers.

The novel depicts the lives of ordinary working Koreans, from the Japanese colonial era, through Liberation and right up to the twenty-first century.

Established in 2005, the International Booker Prize recognizes top international novels translated into English, and is considered one of the three major global literary awards.
