Daily new COVID-19 cases in South Korea stood above one-thousand-600, logging a fresh record for a Sunday tally.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said Monday that one-thousand-605 additional people had tested positive throughout Sunday, raising the cumulative total to 287-thousand-536.

Although the latest tally fell 305 compared to the previous day, the new Sunday high comes amid concerns over a virus resurgence given the movement of people during the Chuseok holiday.

Out of the new cases, one-thousand-577 were local infections and 28 were overseas transmissions. Seventy-four-point-six percent of the local cases were reported from the capital region, including 578 in Seoul.

Five more people succumbed to the virus, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-409. The nation's fatality rate stands at zero-point-84 percent. The number of critically ill patients stands at 332.
