A domestic research team has developed a new candidate material that can prevent cancer cells from spreading to other organs of the body.

A Seoul National University team led by Professor Kim Seong-hoon said it developed the material by controlling a protein enzyme called KRS, which promotes the spread of cancer cells.

The research team verified the effectiveness of the new development in tests on mice.

The team added the new substance could be a landmark, innovative anticancer drug, since currently, there are no effective medicines that prevent the spread of cancer cells.

The feat was published in the online edition of the international science journal “Nature Chemical Biology” on Monday.
