The city of Busan will boost monitoring and analysis efforts on agricultural and marine products for possible radioactive contamination. Such efforts come amid concerns over contaminated vapor and water discharged from Japan’s damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The Busan Metropolitan City announced on Friday it will hold a meeting on such monitoring and analysis efforts on August 29 amid the participation of 25 officials from eight agencies, including Busan’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety.
At the meeting, participants will study the effects that contaminated vapor and water discharged from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant can have on Busan’s waters. Participants will also establish a network to share data on the import of contaminated agricultural and marine products.
In particular, participants are likely to vow to resolve citizens’ worries over radioactive contamination by swiftly sharing data on agricultural and marine products, processed foods and water supply with the public.
