South Korea’s National Safety and Security Commission says vapor and contaminated water discharged from Japan’s damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant have had no effects on South Korea.
The commission said Wednesday that it monitored the concentration of environmental radiation in 122 regions across the nation and found no increases in usual levels.
It also said no artificial radioactive substances were found in airborne dust and rainwater, which were analyzed at 14 local radiation measurement centers across the nation.
The commission also increased the number of monitoring spots from 21 to 27 to more precisely analyze the level of radioactive materials in seas near Korea. However, it explained that no changes were found in samples collected in the first half of this year.
The commission says it will strengthen its monitoring activities if it concludes additional measures are needed to protect South Korea from radioactive substances originating from Fukushima.
