Monsoon Season to Begin Mon. Night With Rain, Possible Thunderstorms

Rain and possibly thunderstorms will roll into South Korea’s central region on Monday evening, marking the official beginning of the summer rainy season called “jangma.”

The Korea Meteorological Administration said there is a 60 to 70 percent chance of rain for the central region before the monsoon conditions envelop the rest of the country from Tuesday afternoon.

The weather agency explained due to unstable atmospheric conditions, that area could also see heavy downpours with thunder and lightning on Monday night and Tuesday morning. It noted the storms could continue through Tuesday afternoon and night.

The agency advised taking precautions to prevent any damage from the storms, which it predicts will let up gradually from Tuesday night starting in the northern central region.
