Heat Wave to Strike S. Korea This Week

South Korea is expected to get hit by a heat wave this week with no rain in the forecast to provide relief.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Monday that June will feature more days of high temperatures than usual this year, and this week will see the mercury hover around 30 degrees Celsius.

Care for the elderly and children is emphasized during these periods of hot weather, given that deaths from high temperatures increase by ten percent when temperatures rise above 30 degrees Celsius for three straight days.

The weather agency projected that the nation will see more heat waves through late June than in previous years and the hot weather will continue into September.
