4 More Infected with Tick-borne Disease

The nation has confirmed four new cases of a deadly tick-borne disease, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to six.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that two dead persons and two patients tested positive for the severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) virus. The two patients are receiving treatment in Jeju and Gangwon Province, respectively.

The latest deaths from the disease were an 82-year-old woman from Jeju Island and a 74-year-old woman from North Gyeongsang Province. Two others have died from SFTS in South Korea.
