Hanwha's Ryu Hyun-jin to Play in the U.S. for 28 Bln Won

Hanwha Eagles pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin’s debut in major league baseball in the United States is getting closer as bids for the player have emerged.

Hanwha has said it will accept the highest bid for its most valuable pitcher on the team after receiving bids from American teams through a posting system. This allows Ryu to play in the U.S. regardless of the remaining contract period he has with the Hanwha Eagles.

The team that made the highest bid has not been announced yet but the bid offer has been the highest yet for any South Korean baseball player to play overseas at roughly 28 billion won.

Ryu will start negotiations for a contract in the U.S. as soon as next month.

Currently, seven to eight teams including the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians have been rumored to have taken an interest in the pitcher.
