Launch of Naro Rocket to Come Sometime After Mid-Nov.

The launch of South Korea’s Naro space rocket is expected to be delayed until sometime after the middle of this month.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology convened on Monday a meeting of a preparation committee for the Naro’s launch and confirmed that a defect in the adapter block was responsible for the suspended launch on October 26th. The adapter block is a locking mechanism linking the rocket and the launch pad.

The ministry’s assessment confirmed that a defect in the locking mechanism broke a rubber seal, which initially was cited as the cause of the suspended launch.

As a result, the launch of the Naro is expected to come after new parts are transported from Russia and are installed.

An official of the ministry said that it is hard to tell how long it will take for the parts to arrive from Russia in addition to installation time, noting Naro is highly likely to be launched no later than the preliminary date of November 24th.
