Ryu So-yeon Clinches LPGA Rookie of the Year Award

South Korean golfer Ryu So-yeon has won the LPGA's Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Award.

The LPGA announced on Monday that with three tournaments remaining in the 2012 season, Ryu has “mathematically clinched" the award, which is based on points competition.

The LPGA said “Ryu outlasted Lexi Thompson of the U.S. for the top rookie honor on the strength of 14 top-10 finishes through 22 events, including a victory at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic" in August.

Ryu has become the eighth South Korean to claim Rolex Rookie of the Year honors since Pak Se-ri first earned the award in 1998.
