The 93rd National Sports Festival will open in Daegu on Thursday.

Olympic stars will take part in the weeklong festival, including Yang Hak-seon, who won South Korea’s first Olympic gold in gymnastics at the London Olympics this summer and Son Yeon-jae, who finished fifth in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-round final at the London Olympics.

Some 25-thousand Korean athletes from 17 cities and 15 countries abroad will compete in the sports event.

The opening ceremony of the festival will take place at around five p.m. Singer PSY will hold a special concert in celebration of the event.

KBS will air live the opening ceremony from 5:40 p.m. to 7 p.m.
