The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute says it has developed a satellite laser ranging (SLR) tracking system.

The SLR station measures the precise distance to a satellite by shooting laser to the satellite equipped with retroreflectors. The light will then be reflected back to the station, and calculations of the laser’s round trip travel time provides instantaneous range measurements.

When the Naro space rocket is launched on October 26th, the system is expected to measure the exact location of the rocket, which will be equipped with the retroreflectors.
