FIFA has decided to delay discussions on disciplining South Korean soccer player Park Jong-woo for his "Dokdo ceremony" after the South Korean team scored a victory against Japan during the Olympics.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) said FIFA had sent a statement saying it would review Park’s case next week and that exact dates had not been settled yet.
The KFA also said that the delay came from other cases currently being reviewed for disciplinary action by FIFA and that Park’s case needed more time to be investigated due to its sensitivity.
Park held up a sign that said “Dokdo is South Korean territory” after the South Korean team had won the bronze medal soccer match against Japan.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has postponed giving Park his medal, saying his actions may have violated the Olympics' ethics rule that prohibits all kinds of political action during games.
The decision made by FIFA next week will be reported to the IOC. The IOC will then make a final decision on Park's case in December.
