Gymnast Yang Hak-seon Wins Award from Gov't

The government has awarded a prize to Yang Hak-seon, who won South Korea’s first Olympic gold in gymnastics at the London Olympics this summer.

The government annually awards prizes to athletes, coaches or sports leaders in seven categories who made a significant contribution to the development of South Korean athletics.

The prize that Yang received is considered the highest honor for a South Korean athlete.

Coach Jung Hoon of the nation’s judo team, which won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the London games, received the best coach prize.

Soonchunhyang University Professor Chun Hye-ja received a prize for her contribution to academic systematization of sports for the disabled.

The awards ceremony will be held on October 15th in Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
