Study: Korean's Hasty Eating Habits Could Contribute to Weight Gain

A study shows that roughly 90 percent of Korean people take less than 15 minutes to eat a meal, putting them at greater risk for weight gain.

Survey results show 53 percent of people finish eating within ten minutes and eight percent clean their plate in just five minutes.

The finding was made in a study of eight-thousand-700 people conducted by Korea University Ansan Hospital.

The hasty eating habits among Koreans can increase the risk of obesity and cause adult diseases by boosting cholesterol levels in the blood.

This is because people take in more calories if they eat quickly in a short time, considering the brain takes at least 20 minutes before it realizes the stomach is full.

People are advised to slowly eat their meals for more than 20 minutes and fully chew food before swallowing it.
