IOC Demands Investigation Into Dokdo Ceremony

The International Olympic Committee is looking into a victory ceremony executed by one of South Korea’s soccer players after they defeated Japan in a bronze medal match at the London Olympics.

The IOC is delaying awarding a bronze medal to midfielder, Park Jong-woo after he held up a piece of paper saying “Dokdo is our territory” handed to him by a spectator after the match was over at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The Korean Olympic Committee said on August 11th, that it had received a message from the IOC that Park not participate in the awards ceremony and it requested the player’s actions be investigated.

The IOC does not tolerate political actions at the Olympics.

An official from the Korea Football Association said the Korean player had displayed the piece of paper in a “moment of passion” and that the ceremony had not been planned in advance.
