Son Yeon-jae Finishes 5th in Individual Rhythmic Gymnastics in London

South Korea's Son Yeon-jae finished fifth in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-round final at the London Olympics Saturday, local time.

During competition at Wembley Arena, the 18-year-old Son received a combined score of 111.475 in four routines of hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.

She achieved well above her goal of a top-ten finish by ranking fifth, just 0.225 points below bronze medalist Liubou Charkashyna of Belarus.

Son became the first-ever South Korean to compete in the rhythmic gymnastics final at the Olympic Games.

At the event, 2008 Olympic Champion Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia won her second Olympic gold medal with a score of 116.900, defeating her compatriot Daria Dmitrieva who received 114.500 points.
