Korea Wins Bronze in Men's Soccer, Gold in Women's Taekwondo

South Korea won its 13th gold and added another bronze to its medal tally on Day 14 of the Olympic Games in London.

The South Korean soccer team, led by Coach Hong Myung-bo, powered to third place as it beat Japan 2-0 in the deciding match for the bronze. Park Chu-young scored a goal in the 38th minute of the first half and Koo Ja-cheol soon followed with another in the 12th minute of the second half.

The bronze medal at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is the first Olympic soccer medal for South Korea as well as the first for any Asian soccer team since 1968.

Meanwhile, Hwang Kyung-seon defended her 67-kilogram Olympic taekwondo title after beating Turkey’s Nur Tatar 12-5 at the ExCeL-South Arena.

With the gold medal, Hwang became the first South Korean taekwondo athlete to come out as the Olympic champion twice in a row.

In boxing, South Korea’s Han Soon-chul defeated Lithuania’s Evaldas Petrauskas by 18-13 to advance to the 60-kilogram final.
