Anchor: The Korea Meteorological Administration says it lifted all heat wave advisories issued in certain parts of the country including Seoul as of 4 a.m. Friday. Our Kim Soyon has more.
Report: Heat wave advisories that began popping up throughout South Korea from July 20th were all lifted Friday, 21 days after the first alert went into effect.
During this period, afternoon highs exceeded 33 degrees Celsius in the North Jeolla Province cities of Jeonju and Jeongeup for 20 consecutive days, the longest stretch in the country. The heat streak lasted 18 days in Daegu, Hapcheon and Miryang in South Gyeongsang Province, and the sweltering temperatures continued for ten days in Seoul from July 31st through Thursday this week.
Although the advisories have been lifted, tropical nights continue in areas such as Seoul, Daegu, Incheon and Busan. It’s the longest tropical night streak since 2000 when related data was first recorded.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast rainfall in most parts of the country on Friday, which will bring temperatures down. It said rain clouds are expected to set out from the west coast and blanket the nation.
The weather agency predicts afternoon highs of over 30 degrees in inland areas over the weekend but says the mercury will drop to levels similar to past years from early next week.
