S. Korea Beats Britain, Advances to Semifinals

South Korea has defeated Britain 5-4 in a penalty shootout and advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic soccer tournament for the first time in 64 years.

In a men's quarterfinal match held at the Wales Millennium Center in Cardiff on Sunday, Team Korea and Britain were tied 1-1 after the 90-minute regulation and 30-minute overtime, forcing the game into a cliffhanger penalty shootout.

South Korea's Ki Sung-yueng hit the winning penalty after Britain's Daniel Sturridge missed the fifth spot kick for the host nation.

Team Korea, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, will face off with Brazil in a semifinal match at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday(KST) at Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, for a berth in the final.
