Commission Unveils 2013 Budget for Nat'l R&D Projects

Next year's budget for national research and development projects has been increased by more than three percent to eleven trillion won.

The National Science and Technology Commission unveiled the budget for next year on Thursday.

The commission said that roughly 30 percent of the budget at three-point-two trillion won will go into convergence cutting-edge technology. One-point-four trillion won will be injected in large-scale public projects, including aerospace plans, up nearly 13 percent from this year. Also, two-hundred-60 billion won will go into a international science business belt project, up 20 percent from this year.

The budget for projects related to studying natural disasters was also expanded compared to this year.

The commission said that it saved 420 billion won in the budget after disposing overlapping projects and coordinating projects that weren't seeing results.
