Song Dae-nam Wins Olympic Judo Gold in Men’s 90 Kg

South Korea’s Song Dae-nam won gold in the men’s 90-kilogram category of judo on Wednesday.

In the gold medal contest that went into overtime at the ExCel Centre in London, the 33-year-old Song defeated Asley Gonzalez of Cuba with his speedy footwork. His victory comes a day after his compatriot judoka Kim Jae-bum grabbed gold in the men’s under 81-kilogram event on Tuesday.

Song brought his nation its fifth gold medal of the London Olympic Games.

His medal adds to the one gold and one bronze that South Korea has already won in judo in London.

In the semifinal match earlier in the day, Song knocked out Masashi Nishiyama of Japan, the world’s No. 3 player.

Nishiyama later won a bronze medal, with the other bronze going to Ilias Iliadis of Greece.
