South Korea’s fencer Shin A-lam, the Olympic hopeful who lost her chance at a medal in the women’s epee event due to questionable rulings, has refused to accept a special award given by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

Visiting the ExCel center to support compatriot fencer Choi Byung-chul on Wedneday, Shin told reporters that a special award is not an Olympic medal and that she does not accept the results of the semifinal with Britta Heidemann of Germany.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) Park Yong-sung announced the South Korean sports body accepted the FIE offer to recognize Shin’s sportsmanship in the aftermath of the semifinal match. However, Park reportedly did not ask Shin before accepting the offer.
