The relentless heat wave continues to take its toll on the nation with the temperatures rising as high as 35 degrees Celsius in the southern regions and Gangwon Province.
Afternoon highs in Milyang and Hapcheon in South Gyeongsang Province posted 37-point-four degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the temperatures soared to 37-point-two degrees Celsius in Daegu, 36 degrees in Jeonju, 35-point-four degrees in Gangneung and 33 degrees in Seoul.
Inland areas, including Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu and Gwangju, are expected to experience tropical conditions on Tuesday night. The heat wave is forecasted to continue into Wednesday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said that Typhoon Damrey will affect Jeju Island and the southern coastal areas from Thursday, but for the time being, most regions of the country will have sweltering temperatures.
