Park Tae-hwan Wins Silver in 400M Swimming

South Korea's defending swimming champion Park Tae-hwan took silver in the men’s 400-meter freestyle event – the second medal in South Korean history for swimming.

Park’s path to the medal had been rocky, as he had initially been disqualified in the semi-finals. The decision was later overturned. China’s Sun Yang came in first to win the gold medal, setting a new record for Asia.

South Korea’s men’s archery team took bronze on Saturday, just one day after setting a world record in the qualification round. In the bronze medal match, South Korea beat the Mexican team 224-219 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

In fencing, top-ranked Nam Hyun-hee’s hopes for a medal were dashed. She finished fourth after losing 12-13 to Italy’s Valentina Vezzali in the bronze medal match at the ExCel Arena.
