Heat Wave Sweeps Nation

A heat wave is sweeping the nation as the temperature on Tuesday rose to this year’s high of 36-point-three degrees Celsius in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

The mercury in Daegu soared to 36 degrees Celsius, while Jeonju and Gangneung saw the temperatures rise to around 35 degrees Celsius and Seoul to 32-point-one degrees.

Heat wave warnings have been issued for more regions, including Gyeongsang Province and the inland areas of Jeolla Province. Meanwhile, a heat wave watch is still in effect for some of the southern regions, Chungcheong and Gyeonggi Provinces and parts of Gangwon Province.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said that the heat wave will likely continue for a while as the high atmospheric pressure from the North Pacific is pushing hot and humid air towards the Korean Peninsula.
