Typhoon Khanun Moving toward N. Korea

Typhoon Khanun is currently passing through the central region of South Korea and is expected to hit North Korea by the afternoon.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said the typhoon is moving northward at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour and projects it will reach the North sometime after 12 p.m.

As the storm moved north from the southern coasts, a typhoon watch for the Jeolla Provinces was lifted. A watch is currently in place for the central region and the northern parts of Gyeonggi Province.

The weather agency forecast that heavy rain will pound the northern parts of Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province on Thursday morning, but the storm will drift north by the afternoon.
