Soccer attracts record 3.75 million spectators

The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced Friday soccer games in Korea attracted a record-breaking number of spectators this year. According to a tally released by the KFA, some 3.75 million spectators, an increase of just over 1 million from last year, went to stadiums this year to watch a total of 214 matches. The year's average of 17,555 spectators per match broke the record 15,590 set in 1999. Korea's national team drew over 666,000 spectators through 12 A-matches including the 2002 World Cup finals, the Asian Games team attracted 220,700, the National Youth team 174,700 and Women's National team 36,600. Professional K-League clubs attracted 2.65 million soccer fans for the 179 games held this year.
