Figure skater Kim Yu-na says she will retire as a professional figure skater after the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Kim told reporters on Monday at the national training center in Taeneung that she struggled to find the motivation to continue to compete after winning a gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. She said she decided to keep skating in order to contribute to the sport in South Korea.

Kim added that she intends to become a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after the Sochi Games.

Kim has not competed for over a year since the 2011 World Figure Skating Championships.
