Park Tae-Hwan Wins 100M Freestyle

South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan flaunted a second win at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix after snagging first place in the men’s 100-meter freestyle meet.

Park took first place in the competition with a record of 48.85 seconds on the second day of the contest at the Santa Clara George F. Heinz International Swim Center in California.

However, he was unable to break the 48.82 second qualification standard needed to compete in the Olympics.

Park’s team told media he had only participated in the 100-meter event to check his speed ahead of the London Olympics, where he will be competing in his specialty, the 200-meter meet.

Earlier on Thursday, Park set a meet record in the men’s 800-meter freestyle with seven minutes and 52.04 seconds.
