Incheon City Asks State for Support for Asian Games

Incheon, host of the 2014 Asian Games, has asked the central government to provide active financial support for the sport event.

Incheon Mayor Song Young-gil on Wednesday said at a news conference at Incheon City Hall that as the Asian Games is a global event requiring national support, the city should receive the same level of public funds that the central government is allocating to prepare for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Song said that the city will overcome its fiscal crisis by cutting personnel expenses, selling land and by delaying planned subway construction.

Incheon, which expects a deficit of up to 400 billion won in tax revenues this year, has decided to postpone the completion of the city's subway line 2 until 2016 from 2014.
