A rare phenomenon is being observed among flowers in South Korea as spring peaks this year.

The rhododendron, rhododendron yedoense and rhododendron lateritium usually bloom in one or two week intervals. However, they bloomed simultaneously this year.

Primroses, which signal the beginning of spring, bloomed a month later than last year, while azaleas, which usually open up in the beginning of March, flowered just recently.

Experts says flowers are blooming at odd times this year due to unusual weather conditions.

Cherry blossoms also bloomed earlier than usual. According to a survey by the Korea Forest Service and Korea National Arboretum on 17 regions where cherry blossoms are planted, the time gap between cherry blossoms blooming in Jeju Island, which is usually the first place the flowers are seen, and in Yeochun of Gyeonggi Province, which is usually the last, narrowed from 42 days in 2010 to 21 days this year.
