A group of local researchers says it developed a transparent display that is 170 times clearer than existing displays.

The researchers at the government-funded Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute said Tuesday that they utilized light-blocking flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) technology to raise the display’s definition.

With the technology, images of map routes can pop up in car windows and people can check out bus routes on glass walls. People will also be able to get various information through their eyeglasses.

Display industries are eyeing the new technology as a new generation growth engine. It is expected to be commercialized within two years.
