Shutout Victory Propels S. Korea to Olympics

South Korea's national soccer team is heading to the Olympics for the seventh time in a row.

The men's national team led by coach Hong Myung-bo earned a berth in the London Olympics after beating Oman 3-0 in a regional qualifier Wednesday night.

Winger Nam Tae-hee netted the first goal of the game in the first minute of the first half during the match held at Al Seeb Sports Stadium in Muscat. Kim Hyun-sung and Baek Sung-dong both scored in the second half to seal the victory.

The win locked in South Korea at the top spot in Group A with eleven points on three wins and two ties.

Wednesday’s match was halted for around ten minutes in the second half after Omani soccer fans threw water bottles on the field.

Meanwhile in Group A competition, third-ranked Qatar defeated fourth-place Saudi Arabia in a 2-1 match.
