The Korea Meteorological Administration plans to develop various weather services and enhance international cooperation this year to expand the weather and climate industry.
The nation’s weather agency on Monday announced that it will try to increase the weather market’s revenue to 300 billion won this year from the 100 billion won recorded last year. The KMA noted that the weather and climate industry has emerged as one of the nation’s new growth engines.
To that end, the administration decided to develop a weather service that will be customized for urban and rural areas and to enhance research on a service that will combine navigation systems with weather information. It will also actively transfer its weather technology and knowhow to the private sector.
In addition, the KMA plans to enhance cooperation with other countries by providing related weather technology to developing countries, such as Vietnam and Mongolia. This move will in turn expand the global market for domestic weather observation equipment.
