Wednesday Marks Coldest Day of This Season

Record low temperatures for this winter have settled into South Korea following a blanket of snow that fell on Tuesday.

Morning lows in inland areas of Gangwon Province plunged to around minus 20 degrees Celsius, while most areas in the central region saw the low dip to minus 15 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest day so far this season.

A cold wave warning has been issued for the northern parts of Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province, and a cold wave watch has been issued for the inland areas of the central region and North Gyeongsang Province.

The mercury is expected to fall further on Thursday.

Morning lows are expected to stand at minus 22 degrees Celsius in Cheorwon on Thursday, minus 16 degrees in Seoul, and minus eight degrees in Busan. Temperatures in Jeju Island are also forecast to drop below zero which is rare.
